About

Tim Booth Consultancy Services Limited was founded in May 2007 by Timothy Booth. We offer specialist security advice to the caravan and leisure industry, drawing on extensive experience in crime prevention and security solutions.

A Career in Policing and Crime Reduction

Tim Booth served as a Police Officer with Lincolnshire Police for 30 years. During his career, he handled various aspects of policing. When he retired, Tim was the senior crime reduction officer for Lincolnshire Police.

As a crime reduction officer, Tim supported the local Crime and Disorder Partnership. He acted as the Police/Local Authority Liaison Officer, working with Government Offices to secure funding for local projects. Tim also became a Home Office-accredited Crime Reduction Officer. He further qualified as an Architectural Liaison Officer, accredited by both the Home Office and the University of Lincolnshire. This led to more work with local planning officers to reduce crime and anti-social behavior. Tim also trained as a Home Office ‘Associated Trainer’ to promote partnership working between agencies.

Partnering with the Caravan Industry

Tim established the first industry-sponsored crime prevention caravan initiative with the Welland Group of companies. The caravan industry quickly recognized the benefit of promoting public security. As a long-time caravanner himself, Tim built strong connections with caravan manufacturers.

This sponsorship later became a formal national agreement. Under the Home Office’s guidance, leading industry organizations collaborated to provide advice at major national shows. These shows built strong links between the industry, the public, and the Police. The show facility also became a contact point for manufacturers of security and specialist leisure equipment.

National Impact and Ongoing Work

Tim’s involvement with the Home Office expanded when he joined the Leisure Section of the Vehicle Crime Reduction team. Recent figures from this group highlight the positive impact of partnership working on reducing leisure-related crime.

Partnership remained a core theme when Tim was appointed to the National Caravan Council Security Working Group. This group has worked to establish new security products for the market, leading to updated standards that new products now exceed. Work continues to establish further industry standards for services and products supplied to the public by the leisure industry.

This extensive work with the industry has made Tim a key partner. He serves as a regular point of contact for both Police and industry inquiries. Tim is also one of a small number of specialist caravan inspectors, listed in the ‘Thatcham’ guide.

Tim’s role has developed significantly. Major caravan industry partners, including the National Caravan Council, The Camping and Caravanning Club, and The Caravan Club, appointed him as their consultant. He works as the Leisure Vehicles Officer for the specialist Policing Unit established by AVCIS (The Association of Chief Police Officers Vehicle Crime Intelligence Unit). He is the first civilian staff member to join this team in this specialized role. This work is part of their delivery as an industry group, The Caravan Safety and Security Group.

Tim’s primary role is to support the NCC, major Clubs, and law enforcement agencies. He helps them continue providing a safer environment for the industry’s diverse customers to enjoy their leisure time. Tim also supports the Caravan Safety and Security Group at regional shows, offering advice to both industry professionals and the public on various issues.

"Really interesting, Tim. Thank you very much for unpacking what I guess on the face of it looks a bit boring if I dare say, but it’s actually fascinating. And I totally understand the benefit of it."
